The Demonizing and Dehumanization of Transgender: I Blame Vertical Morality & Divine Purpose

Dear Reader, 

Whether you agree or disagree that religion has played a significant role in the oppression of many groups of people over the past thousand or more years, this commentary isn't about absolute proof. A prerequisite of some history is required here. Volumes of books and articles have already been produced for those that care to know the truths of history, even when it hurts. This writing is also open to constructive feedback and correction, as I do not fear to be wrong. That is especially true if it helps me to become a better human and contributor the to the empathetic, factual-based society I desire. 

This wasn't designed to be a detailed trail of evidence of every atrocity and genocide supported by various denominations of Christianity, Catholicism, or other religions. Instead, it is meant to provoke thought and debate that otherwise, in my opinion, has been left in the hands of assumption, denial, or ignorance for far too long by far too many.

With the rising wake of people deconstructing their previously-held religious beliefs and practices, including myself, many of us now see at least some aspects of religion to not only be absolutely delusional, but harmful and even dangerous. Where this ties into the oppression of Transgender People, is the bigoted "Great" version of America being strategically maneuvered and strong-armed into legislation. This movement has been supported by and generously financed by Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christian groups for many years. This isn't a new idea. The desire to control people, keep them in line, and purify their God-given great nation of "others" is as old as proven recorded history, and even as old as parables and fairy tales.

Christian Nationalism is running rampant in America today. As of this writing in April 2023, it is  disturbingly similar to 1930s Nazi Germany's Nationalist movement. However, there are two major differences:

One difference, for better and for worse, is the accessibility of information, and how quickly it spreads. In the 1930s, controlling all significant news companies was much easier for a tyrant. 

Today, anyone with a smart phone can capture live events and share them with the world in seconds or even in real-time. Again, for better and for worse. Controlling or banning the largest social media companies is a high priority for any authoritarian regime today. Keeping people in the dark and divided is still part of the playbook, but the playing field has changed quite a bit.

Another significant difference is that Nazi Germany Nationalism had support from the Catholic and Protestant Churches, including the Evangelical Church, but somewhat behind the scenes and under the table. This included backing from the Vatican. Their support of Hitler's form of nationalism was still complicit to the horrors that were inflicted upon the LGBT+ and Jewish communities of that era. Also, the silence from the church leaders only contributed to Nazi movement. Despite the Nazis being anti-Christian, they needed the support from The Church, and most of The Church feared to stand up to the genocide they were very aware of. 

Whereas in America today, the bigoted nationalism that has been indoctrinated into American society literally has the term "Christian" as a preface. Christianity, as ridiculously divided and conflicted as it is, is out front center of the nationalist movement in the USA. As mentioned before, Evangelicals and Fundamentalists have been the largest religious contributors to the oppression against the LGBT+ community. 

To keep this commentary from turning into a novel, I end with this proposal:

Point to me to any social or political activists, or any city, state, or federal leaders in America today that are supporting the oppression of Transgender People or anyone in the LGBT+ community, who are either confirmed atheists, agnostics, and/or secular humanists. The lines are open.
